God's Word

I believe that the Bible is the 100% infallible inspired word of God. I believe the knowledge the Bible contains is infinite. I believe the Bible can be understood by all people who have the Holy Spirit within their heart.

I believe we are commanded to search and study the scriptures as though we are seeking buried treasure (Proverbs 2:1-6). I’m not talking about daily reading. Although, daily reading and devotional time is very important in our walk, studying the Bible is much more.

I must admit my own weakness in dedicating time to study. The pressures of work, preparing for Bible lessons and family time leave little time for intense study as the scriptures command. In our modern way of living, time is scarce and we must be careful to guard against wasting precious time. Any extraneous activities (Watching TV etc…) that take our focus from God should be reduced and ultimately given up.

I’m so thankful that we have had Godly men over the centuries led by the Holy Spirit who were able to dedicate their lives to intense study, teaching and preaching the word of God. They have mined the word of God and have not covered their mines of treasure. They have kept the mines open by passing along information in the form of commentaries, sermon notes and writing volumes of books about the Biblical truths they found. They have left the mines open and we are invited to pick up their mining tools and continue on into the mine to seek deeper and deeper Biblical truths.

Men are fallible and we should not accept all of men’s word concerning the Bible as factual. Many false teachers and teaching are prevalent in our age. As Christians we are commanded to test all spirits (1 John 4:1-3), we must test all of the truths that men write and teach because men are fallible. We do this by reading the truths that they have discovered and test them against the one and only source of truth, the Bible. Where these truths line up with the Bible, we add to our personal toolbox of knowledge, where they do not we toss out. By doing this we are kept from constantly reinventing the wheel. Instead of starting at the mine entrance where the path is well worn, wide and easy, we start in the deepest recesses of the mine where the going is tough, tight and a little cramped, but Oh Boy! when you find that nugget of gold what joy.

Isn’t it wonderful to realize that God’s word is alive and that we can grow closer in our relationship and walk by study?

The point I’m making is that the Bible is truth and the infallible word of God. Many people who are smarter, wiser and more discerning than I have discovered many truths and passed that information along to us in the form of commentaries, sermons (oral and written) and volumes of books that allow us to start deeper into that mine shaft of truth….The Bible.

May our mine never be closed or our mining tools dull from lack of use.

                        Your Brother in Christ,

                                                            Michael
