Today we read Psalms chapters 57-61.
Psalm 57 is a beautiful song of praise. In this chapter David focuses a lot on the steadfast love of the Lord. He thanks the Lord for His mercy, saying that in Him his soul finds refuge. David puts his trust in the Lord, knowing that He will deliver him from every trial he faces.
Psalm 58 is rather graphic in the way David describes his desire for God to have vengeance and slay his enemies. Though this passage is almost disturbing in the pictures David paints, it is a reminder that we should be specific when we pray to the Lord. We know that He hears our cries for help, so we should not hold back in what we are praying for.
In Psalm 59 David recognizes the Lord as being his Strength. I love how he capitalizes the “s”, showing that God is not only the provider of his strength, but He IS his strength. He calls out to the Lord to rescue him from his enemies, knowing that God will save him.
Psalm 60 shows David understanding that the Lord will put His children in trials where they may fail, so that He will get the glory when He delivers them from their troubles. David knows that it is the Lord who will be the ultimate Victor, as He has the power to overcome anything that may come against His people.
Psalm 61 is beautiful. In this song of praise, David writes that when his heart is overwhelmed, he wants to be led to the Rock that is higher than he is. The Lord is his rock, fortress, strength, and salvation. God is our stronghold. When we are faint of heart, He alone can restore us, giving us the strength to continue on. What wonderful blessings we have in our God!
